Equipping Stakeholders to Advocate for Students
Engaging community stakeholders is a must for schools and other educational organizations in the hyper-politicized world of public education. Decades of research prove the worth of resources in our communities to complement educational experiences of our children. Stakeholders include our parents, businesses, non-profits, governmental, and religious organizations; engaging members of these groups while providing intentional services to stimulate intrinsic energies of students are critical ingredients to improve current educational or general academic outcomes. Providing stakeholder opportunities to make meaningful contributions—far beyond bake sales and booster clubs, to the academic enterprise of our students cannot be overvalued. Moore is a founder of the Legacy Roundtable Accelerated Mathematics Academy and OC Black Chamber Education Fund; both organizations designed to increase academic success rates of students served by these groups.
Moore currently serves as President of the non-profit, Uplift Legacy Foundation. Equipping parents and members of community-based stakeholder groups to serve as effective advocates for students is a tried-and-true method of increasing educational engagement. As a former director of Enrollment Management at Cal States and University of California campuses for over twenty years and professionally charged with building relationships with school personnel and community leaders, this experience has led to observations composing the substance of Moore’s life work—widening roads to career and higher education. Moore continues to serves the Council of African American Parents and Orange County Black Chamber Education Fund respectively, engaging a broad sector of community entities in support of efforts to improve general academic skills, college preparation, and early career mentoring. Presenter has been associated with the National Council of Educating Black Children since 1986, this group produces the Blueprint for Action on an annual basis. This document details types of engagement by stakeholder groups that have helped transform failing schools into places where students achieve exemplary outcomes. Strengthening the network of support for public education is Moore’s goal as a professional and servant leader.
